  • If TransLink isn't asking for 2-way traffic on Beach Ave it feels very premature

    Meeting Date:

Report to Council on Imagine West End Waterfront Parks, Beaches and Transportation Vision

  • Actions are more important than words for council when it comes to making streets safer for all

    Meeting Date:

Motion to protect people on Cornwall Avenue

I hope we as a council when we get results back next spring can see the need and keep moving much more courageously on this. You know we only have the term that we were elected to to make these kinds of changes and we either do or we don't. And all the nice statements of values and words only matter as much as the votes that we make and the actual changes that we're able to make to improve safety for pedestrians, for cyclists, for everyone on our streets

  • An active transportation lane and 30km/h speed limit are welcome additions to protecting people on Cornwall Ave

    Meeting Date:

Motion to protect people on Cornwall Avenue

I am very happy to support the addition of exploring feasibility of an active transportation lane. Certainly, strongly supportive that heard it from a lot of places. I will be asking that we sever the vote on this amendment. I won't be supporting the move to make the speed reduction 40 instead of 30. First of all it doesn't, I don't understand how we can say it's easier to enforce at 30 than 40? And what we've heard very clearly from speakers and from many studies and many emails we've been getting, is that the impact to a human life from being hit at 30 versus 40 is significant so if we're doing this work let's do it in the way that makes the most difference for every single individual who could be involved in an accident.
